Introducation

The department started its functioning in 1997 with the start of the college, headed by various renowned Physiologists during different tenures namely Prof. Dr. Naseem Rauf, Prof. Dr. Masud Alam. The hard work and efforts contributed by Prof. Dr. Shehnaz Javed and Dr. Akmal Hassan in the initial development of the department cannot be overlooked. Presently, the department is headed by Prof. Dr. Humera Ehsan Wyne with a rich experience of teaching undergraduate and postgraduate classes in the various renowned institutions of the country. The rest of the faculty members consist of one Associate Professor, Dr. Akmal Hassan who is also indebted with a long experience of teaching Physiology. One Assistant Professor, Dr. Anser Asrar, a keen young teacher and one senior lecturer, Dr. Ghazala Qureshi and five Demonstrators. The Physiology Department works dynamically under the able guidance of the head of the department, Professor Dr. Humera Ehsan Wyne, as an integral part of the basic medical sciences division of the Lahore Medical & Dental College. The department is equipped with two spacious laboratories, which are sufficient for the undergraduate experimental jobs as well as any research project by the faculty members.

Teaching Programs & Academic Activities

Multiple teaching disciplines are being maneuvered by the department which includes the teaching of MBBS, BDS, BSc Medical Laboratory Technology, BSc Physiotherapy, Paramedics etc in the form of theory lectures, group discussions, laboratory work. Latest teaching techniques are being utilized in the lectures and discussions. The students are allocated short topics for the presentations in the form of mini seminars for student­student and student-teacher interaction. There is a regular system of student assessment on the basis of comprehension, oral presentation and answering multiple-choice

questions. This assessment is repeated monthly followed by two term tests at the end of the term before the final send-up examination. Work is done for the creation of the modules in collaboration with the other basic and clinical departments for the Problem Based Learning (PBL).
