The department of Pharmacology was
established in 1997 since the inception of
LMDC. Presently the department is headed by
Prof. Dr. Hidayat H. Khan, who has a rich
experience of teaching undergraduate and
postgraduate classes in the various renowned
institutions of the country. The department
also has an Associate Professor, Dr. Shah
Murad and an Assistant Professor, Dr.
Zulfiqar-UI-Hassan, as well as two senior
lecturers and four demonstrators.
The department has 3 offices for the senior
staff and a demonstrator room. The
department also has a well equipped spacious
Pharmacology Laboratory that can accommodate
about 50 students at one time and which is
sufficiently equipped for conducting
undergraduate pharmacology experiments.
All teaching facilities such as lecture
theatres that can accommodate over 200
students, modern teaching aids including
audio-visual aids, multi-media, internet
access and well equipped library are availed
by the faculty of the department.
Teaching Programs & Academic Activities:
The department is presently involved in
teaching the subject of Pharmacology &
Therapeutics to students of Third Year MBBS
and Second Year BDS. This is done in the
form of lectures, tutorials, presentations
and practicals. Latest teaching techniques
are being utilized in the lectures and
tutorials. Topics of lectures, practicals
and tutorials are displayed weekly on the
notice boards for both MBBS and BDS classes.
Learning objectives of each chapter are also
displayed on notice boards before
commencement of the lectures of a particular
chapter.
There is a regular system of student
assessment on the basis of class tests
(consisting of Short Essay Questions (SEQs),
MCQs, Viva voce examinations etc, grading in
tutorial sessions as well as term exams and
send-up examination.

Briefly for 3rd Year MBBS, the curriculum
for subject of Pharmacology is divided into
9 units:
General Pharmacology, Autonomic Nervous
System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory
System, Gastrointestinal System, Central
Nervous System, Blood, Endocrine
Pharmacology, Autacoids and Autacoid
antagonists and Chemotherapy
For 2nd Year BDS, the syllabus is very
similar:
General Pharmacology, Autonomic Nervous
System, Cardiovascular System, Respiratory
System, Gastrointestinal System, Central
Nervous System, Blood, Autacoids and
Autacoid antagonists and Chemotherapy with
emphasis on topics pertaining to dentistry.
Dental Pharmacology is a chapter added to
syllabus of Pharmacology for teaching to 2nd
year BDS students. |
