The word
“Medical Biochemistry” and the name
mentioned above can never be mentioned
separately as far as the recognition and the
importance of this subject are concerned.
The reason is that she was among the
intellectuals/initiators, who realistically
felt the need of this subject of
biochemistry to be recognized as a separate
entity and convinced the Punjab University’s
Medical Educationists that the subject of
Medical Biochemistry should be given a
greater status and must be recognized as a
separate subject, and not part of
Physiology. Finally, she achieved her
objectives.
Today the
subject of Biochemistry is considered as the
mother of all Medical Sciences,
internationally.
The
Department of Biochemistry of this college
was started in a small area, confined to the
basement of Surgimed Hospital, under the
esteemed supervision of Prof. Dr. Tasnim
Majid, in 1997-8. She had just retired as
the Principal of Fatima Jinnah Medical College and as the Head of Biochemistry Department at that time. Her
services for biochemistry and the teaching
experience of more than three decades, made
her the most suitable person to become the
head of the department of Biochemistry of
LM&DC and is, up-to date now. Under her
supervision the department flourished
according to the latest standards. In early
2000, the whole college was shifted to this
new campus. Over last 5-6 years, this
department has improved amazingly.
Complete
teaching facilities related to the subject
of biochemistry are available. The
department has a fully equipped laboratory,
sufficient enough to train the First
Professional M.B;B.S and B.D.S. students.
Among the teaching faculty, the department
has One professor (mentioned above), One
Associate Professor, One Assistant
Professor, Three experienced Senior
Lecturers and a good number of
demonstrators. Furthermore, most of the
faculty members are actively involved, not
only in teaching, but also in different
research projects as well. |
